“[About blurryface] In some of our music videos, it’s been conveyed and manifested. I’ve been wearing black on my hands and on my neck, and when I think of insecurity, I think of those two areas of my body. It feels like I’m being suffocated. When you’re alone and you’re trying to think about, ‘what’s the point? Why am I even going forward?’, it feels like that pressure’s gonna crush you. And so, every aspect of the record and even the visuals are thought out and this character needs to be defeated and at the same time, when I was sharing with Josh and some of the guys, you know, what I was thinking about for the record, um, I shared it with them and they were like ‘wow, it’s really heavy and intense’, and then we play shows and it’s still… even in the process of still trying to defeat this character, we’re still having a really good time playing shows and playing in front of people, and it just helps to show these songs to people” (x)
